August, 2019
Our Summer Pool Party was a splashing success! Families enjoyed the shady park setting while the youth took advantage of the refreshing pool under the careful supervision of a trained lifeguard.
Food was donated by Rock & Brews in Corona. The pizza was great, and the pasta was AmaZinG! We also had several sandwich selections, fresh fruit, and lots of sweet treats to delight all ages.
For the younger crowd, there was a small blow-up pool and buckets of water balloons for hours of wet enjoyment. To finish off the joyous event, prizes were raffled off to many of our participants.
Thanks to the Avant-Garde team of staff and volunteers whose efforts created a wonderful event to remember. We can’t wait to do it again!

Receiving an honor from the Corona Chamber of Commerce
CORONA, CA – 7/31/19 – Corona Chamber of Commerce presented Avant-Garde FFA with the Economic Enrichment Award. This award is presented to member businesses for adding to the progressive growth of workforce development by providing employment within our region.

Avant-Garde Foster Family Agency awarded three-year CARF Accreditation
CORONA, CA – 1/15/19 – CARF International announced that Avant-Garde Foster Family Agency in Corona, CA has been accredited for a period of three years for its Foster Family and Kinship Care (Children and Adolescents) Governance Standards Applied.
This high level of accreditation is awarded to the agency based on the ability to conform to rigorous CARF standards. This achievement is an indication of the organization’s dedication and commitment to improving the quality of the lives of the persons served.
Avant-Garde Foster Family Agency is a non-profit 501(c)3 foster care agency founded in 2003 and located at 1655 East 6thStreet, Suite A-4C, Corona, CA 92879. They currently service Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties.
CARF is an international, nonprofit accreditor founded in 1966 that set standards of excellence for human service organizations whose programs and services cover the spectrum from youth to older adults in a variety of settings.

Tacos and Santa Clause were just two of the highlights of this year’s Annual Christmas Party. With perfect weather, we had a great attendance by our families who enjoyed the activities, food, and fellowship that Avant-Garde is so well known for. It’s always so much fun to see our kids play and have fun together. Santa stopped by to hand out some gifts and pose for some photos. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped in so many ways to make this a wonderful day!

Avant-Garde was honored to participate in Santiago High School’s College and Career Kickoff event. Greg and Renee represented the agency with passion and enthusiasm. Watch this video and see if you can spot them!
AUGUST, 2018
Our annual Summer Picnic event was a huge success. Families, staff, and volunteers enjoyed a fun-filled day at the Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park in Ontario, California. Although the weather was warm, a large shade tree, ample covering, and water balloons kept participants cool while enjoying each other’s company.
There was plenty of food to feast on with sandwiches from Jimmy John’s, hotdogs, and sides including chips, salads, and fruit. The corn-on-the-cob and ice cone vendor was a big hit as always.
The kids competed in sack races and water balloon play, creating lots of fun and laughter. Face painting, a bounce house, and games kept kids busy and engaged. Families were entered into a raffle for tons of great prizes.
Each year, Avant-Garde Foster Family Agency looks forward to providing this wonderful day of fun and food for our foster care families to show them how much we appreciate them!

This summer, Agency Social Worker, Imelda Hunt, provided a wonderful painting experience for our foster kids with a group paint day. Eleven youth participated in this art session. The children were provided with an easel, paints, brushes, canvas, and the instructions to create a masterpiece of their own to take home.
The kids really enjoyed the experience and each painted something they could be proud of. It was as much fun for the volunteers as it was for the kiddos! Imelda was thrilled at the way the kids were engaged and having fun and she looks forward to doing this again soon. Avant-Garde FFA provided a pizza lunch to all participants.

FOSTER AGENCY DIRECTOR TRAINS FOR DISASTER
CORONA, CA — Renee Handsaker, Executive Assistant and Director at Avant-Garde Foster Family Agency in Corona, CA, has received her certification for completing the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training on April 22, 2018, at the Ontario Fire Training Center in Ontario, CA.
CERT training provides lectures, videos, and hands-on training to prepare participants to respond with confidence and authority in the event of an emergency or disaster, including disaster preparedness and psychology, terrorism, medical operations, light search and rescue, and fire safety.
Renee, along with 21 other volunteers, participated in the 20 hour training that took place over a three day period from April 20-22 at the Ontario Fire Training Center.
Renee observed that several of her neighbors where in wheelchairs. She grew concerned that in an emergency, lives could be needlessly lost.
“I wanted to learn more about the disaster risks in our area, and to be prepared to assist our neighbors that can’t help themselves,” said Renee.
The CERT training has giving Renee the confidence to know that in an emergency, she can provide leadership and specialized care until emergency responders can arrive.
